Sex Anyone: The Musical is a bold, darkly comedic, and surprisingly heartfelt exploration of sex addiction, recovery, and the elusive quest for love. Penned by former New York Times editor John Freed, the show draws from his personal experiences, offering a raw and unflinching look at the complexities of addiction. Freed describes it as “South Pacific, but about sexual obsession instead of interracial marriage”.
The narrative centers on Mike, a sex addict desperately seeking love, who finds himself entangled in a journey that requires a miracle to succeed—and, against all odds, he finds one. The musical delves into the lives of Mike and Marty, the latter using alcohol to escape his pain, as they attempt to build a life together amidst battles with their inner demons and guardian angels—lust, booze, despair versus recovery and hope.
Premiering at the Hudson Backstage Theatre in Los Angeles from May 3–11, 2024, the production was directed by Brayden Hade, with musical direction by Chris Wade. The cast featured Connor Bullock, Mitchell Lam Hau, Joelle Tshudy, Renee Cohen, Chris Smith, Tyler Angier, Dalton Weaver, and Faith Berrigan
